Shaun Gallagher is the Lillian and Morrie Moss Professor of Philosophy at the University of Memphis, with secondary appointments at the University of Wollongong, Australia, and honorary professorships at institutions like the University of Copenhagen and Durham University. His research focuses on phenomenology, cognitive sciences, embodiment, self, agency, intersubjectivity, hermeneutics, and the philosophy of time. He has held visiting positions at renowned institutions such as Cambridge University and the Humboldt University in Berlin.
He has been awarded the D.Phil (honoris causa) from the University of Copenhagen (2021) and the Humboldt Foundation Anneliese Maier Research Award (2012–2018). His current research includes the Australian Research Council-funded project "Minds in Skilled Performance" (2017–2020) and prior grants like the EU Marie Curie Actions Grant (2011–2015) and a Templeton Foundation grant (2011–2013).
Gallagher’s work bridges philosophy and cognitive science, emphasizing embodied and enactive approaches.
