Shaun Fluker serves as Professor and Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Clinic at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Law. Affiliated with the Department of Law since 2007, he maintains active standing with the Law Society of Alberta and has argued cases before all Alberta courts and the Supreme Court of Canada.
His research centers on environmental governance, focusing on public participation in resource decisions, endangered species protection, and democratic legal frameworks. Fluker's work critically examines transparency gaps in environmental regulation and advocates for robust legal mechanisms to safeguard ecological integrity, particularly in energy-intensive jurisdictions like Alberta.
His publication trends reveal consistent analysis of Canadian environmental law implementation challenges, with recent emphasis on oil and gas liability frameworks (2023) and species protection mechanisms (2020). His scholarship bridges theoretical legal analysis with practical regulatory shortcomings, often highlighting disconnects between legislative intent and on-ground enforcement.
As Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Clinic, Fluker oversees clinical legal education where students engage in real-world advocacy, including Supreme Court litigation. His media contributions in CBC News (2025), Globe and Mail (2024), and Energy Talks podcast (2023) demonstrate active public engagement with contemporary regulatory debates.
