Shauhin Talesh

Shauhin Talesh is a Professor of Law at the University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law), with courtesy appointments in Sociology and Criminology, Law & Society. He serves as Director of the Law & Graduate Studies Program, overseeing concurrent degree students, and co-founded the Law, Society and Culture Emphasis program. His interdisciplinary research focuses on the intersection of law, business organizations, insurance, and social inequality. He is a leading scholar on organizational compliance, cybersecurity, and insurance’s role in shaping legal frameworks. Professor Talesh co-edits the Law & Society Review, and has held leadership roles in the American Sociological Association and American Association of Law Schools.

Education: Ph.D. in Jurisprudence & Social Policy from UC Berkeley, J.D. (with Highest Honors) and LL.M. in Insurance Law from the University of Connecticut School of Law, B.A. in Criminology, Law & Society from UC Irvine.

Research highlights include examining how insurance companies influence cybersecurity compliance, the role of arbitration systems, and the socio-legal dynamics of consumer rights. His work bridges law, sociology, and political science, with notable publications in Law & Society Review, Law & Social Inquiry, and Law & Policy.

Awards include the American Bar Foundation Fellowship (2022), UC Irvine Beall Applied Innovation Faculty Innovation Fellow (2019), and multiple teaching accolades, including UCI Law’s 1L Professor of the Year (2018–2022). He has served as a Visiting Professor at Sciences-Po, Paris, and UC Berkeley Law School, and contributed to policy initiatives like federal cyber insurance backstopping proposals.
