Jonathan Simon is the Lance Robbins Professor of Criminal Justice Law at Berkeley Law, University of California, Berkeley. Affiliated with the J.D., Jurisprudence and Social Policy (JSP), and Legal Studies programs, he teaches criminal law, criminal procedure, criminology, and sociology of law. His research examines crime and criminal justice’s role in governing modern societies, risk regulation, and the interdisciplinary history of legal studies.

Research and Recognition
Simon’s scholarship includes three monographs: Poor Discipline (1993, ASA prize), Governing through Crime (2007, Hindelang Award), and Mass Incarceration on Trial (2014). He co-edits the journal Punishment and Society and has held visiting roles at the University of Edinburgh, IIAS (Israel), and JSPS (Japan). His work intersects with human rights, legal theory, and social control.
