Hillary Berk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at the University of California, Irvine, specializing in socio-legal studies at the intersection of gender, family, and law. She holds a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from UC Berkeley and a J.D. from Northwestern School of Law, Lewis & Clark College.

Research interests span reproductive law, cybercrime, civil rights, and law and emotion, with a focus on how legal institutions shape gendered experiences of reproduction and family formation. Recent publications analyze conflicts between abortion bans and surrogacy contracts and racism/homophobia in surrogacy matching. She has authored practical legal guides distributed by the Oregon Judicial Department.
