معرفی
Sharon Pochron is an Assistant Professor and Faculty Director of Sustainability Studies at Stony Brook University's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. Her research focuses on ecotoxicology and soil ecology through the Sustainability Studies Earthworm Ecotoxicology Lab, where she investigates environmental toxins' impacts on earthworm populations and soil ecosystems.
- Ph.D. in Anthropology and Biology from the University of New Mexico (1999)
- B.S. in Anthropology and Biology from Franklin and Marshall College
Research Interests: Pochron's work examines how environmental toxins like acid rain, Roundup, and fertilizers affect earthworm biomass and survivorship in controlled experiments conducted at the Life Sciences Greenhouse. She also maintains research interests in primate behavioral ecology, having previously studied lemurs, tarsiers, and baboons.
Teaching: She teaches interdisciplinary courses in biology and anthropology, including conservation genetics, demography, epidemiology, and ecology.
Publications & Research Trends: Her publications demonstrate a dual focus: (1) ecotoxicology studies on earthworms and soil contamination, and (2) earlier primatology research centered on species in Madagascar and Tanzania. Recent work emphasizes human-induced environmental stressors on soil ecosystems.
Academic Leadership: Pochron supervises undergraduate students in her lab, with multiple students having papers in review. She celebrates student excellence through the annual Earthworm Ecotoxicology Laboratory Award.
