Sharon Millen is a Chartered Psychologist and Research Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) within the School of Psychology, affiliated with the Centre for Improving Health-Related Quality of Life (CIHRQoL). She specializes in the neurodevelopmental assessment of children with congenital heart disease and contributes to the All-Island paediatric Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Research Network. Her work focuses on vulnerable populations, psychosocial interventions for chronic health conditions, and substance use disorders.
Education: PhD in Health Psychology (QUB, 2007), examining psychological wellbeing in liver transplant recipients.
- Research Interests: Addiction, developmental assessments, evaluation of complex interventions, and healthcare service evaluations.
- Awards: HSC R&D Division Cochrane Fellowship (2014), DEL Studentship (2003).
Recent projects include co-investigator roles in studies on Northern Ireland’s substance use services, alcohol-related brain injury rehabilitation, and opioid overdose prevention technologies. She has led a Cochrane Review on psychosocial interventions for liver transplant patients since 2014.
Professional affiliations include the British Psychological Society (Chartered Psychologist), European Health Psychology Society, and the Drug and Alcohol Research Network (DARN).
