Sharon Marcus is the Orlando Harriman Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, specializing in 19th-century British and French culture. Her work examines cultural value assignment in architecture, social relationships, and performance.

Her research interests include Victorian literature, gender and sexuality studies, performance culture, and celebrity theory. She co-founded the public scholarship magazine Public Books and has written extensively on feminist theory and textual interpretation.
