Sharon Macdonald is a Professor of Social Anthropology at the Institute for European Ethnology, Humboldt University of Berlin. She serves as Director of the Hermann von Helmholtz Centre for Cultural Techniques and Co-Director of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg 'inherit – heritage in transformation'. Her work focuses on museums, heritage, and cultural transformation, with leadership roles in multiple research centers.

She has received prestigious awards including the Sir John Rhys Award for Celtic Studies, SSRC Funding, and Light Senior Award, and holds honorary positions at the University of Aberdeen and University of York.
