Sharon Campbell is a Senior Lecturer in Communication Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee. Her research and practice focus on animation for theatre, traditional animation techniques, and the transferral of observational drawing skills to imaginative storytelling. She holds a Master of Design in Traditional Special Effects Animation and completed a Research Residency at DJCAD in 2003.
Her teaching roles include Module Leader and Advisor of Studies for Level 4 Animation, overseeing group animated film projects, and leading General Foundation in Art and Design modules. She also teaches life drawing, animation principles, and storytelling drawing techniques. During summers, she contributes to the MSc Animation & VFX course.
Sharon’s work has been featured in Paul Well’s Scriptwriting for Animation, detailing challenges in adapting animation workflows for stage productions. Collaborations include animated backdrops for Dundee Rep Theatre’s theatrical productions. She is currently developing her own short animated film.
Her research emphasizes visualisation techniques, movement-based drawing, and bridging observational and imaginative art practices.
