Dr Sharon Beckett is a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Plymouth, affiliated with the School of Society and Culture (Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business). Her research focuses on workplace violence, the impact of austerity policies on probation staff, and harm experienced by craft workers in unregulated markets. She also addresses gender studies, domestic/sexual violence, historical crime, and animal welfare.
Education: MSc in Social Research and PhD in Criminology (exploring women's experiences of workplace violence). Additional projects include studies on the bedroom tax’s impact on eviction rates, hate crime in nightlife economies, and the resettlement of women offenders post-imprisonment.
Volunteer work: Active with Locate International, a charity aiding families of missing persons. She established Plymouth Cold Case Unit (PCCU), mobilizing student volunteers to research missing persons cases.
