معرفی
Dr. Sharn Perry is a Senior Lecturer in Dementia at the Wicking Dementia Research Education Centre, University of Tasmania. Their research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly ALS and dementia, with an emphasis on cellular mechanisms, genetic factors, and therapeutic interventions. Perry holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Uppsala University and has held postdoctoral roles in Sweden and academic positions at the University of Tasmania.
Education:
- PhD in Neuroscience, Uppsala University (2012–2016)
- Honours in Physiology, University of Adelaide (2010–2010)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science, University of Adelaide (2007–2009)
- Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching, University of Tasmania (2021)
Research Interests:
Dr. Perry’s work explores mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration in ALS and dementia, including axon degeneration, TDP-43 pathology, and the role of microglia. They investigate therapeutic strategies using stem cell models, mouse models, and advanced imaging techniques. Key areas include HDAC6 inhibition, CLN3 disease, and SARM1 signaling pathways.
Grants & Projects:
- $996,179 FightMND grant (2024–2027): Investigating oligogenic/polygenic ALS mechanisms
- $599,978 Medical Research Future Fund grant (2023–2025): Substrate reduction therapy for childhood dementias
- Multiple grants totaling over $3M focused on ALS pathogenesis, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets
Supervision:
- Completed PhD students: Renny Listyono, Laura Anne Reale, Md Anisuzzaman Chowdhury
- Current projects: Amygdala involvement in ALS, new therapies for childhood dementia
