Shantel Weinsheimer, PhD, is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, affiliated with the Center for Cerebrovascular Research and the Institute for Human Genetics. Her research program centers on human genetics of cerebrovascular malformations (including brain AVMs, aneurysms, cerebral cavernous malformations, and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia) and neuropsychiatric disorders. She employs genome-wide association studies (GWAS), transcriptomic profiling, and biomarker discovery to develop clinical genomics tools for early detection and personalized management of vascular disorders.
Education:
- PhD in Molecular Biology & Genetics, Wayne State University (2006)
- MS in Basic Medical Sciences, Wayne State University (2002)
- BS in Biochemistry and Life Science, Otterbein College (1999)
Her work integrates molecular profiling and genetic epidemiology to identify mechanisms underlying neurovascular disease progression. Current projects investigate circulating biomarkers, somatic mutations, epigenetic regulators, and inflammatory pathways contributing to hemorrhage risk and lesion development. She leads multidisciplinary collaborations to map cerebrovasculature at single-cell resolution and validate therapeutic targets.
