Shannon Thompson is a Professor of Music at Western Carolina University’s School of Music within the College of Fine and Performing Arts. She has led the clarinet studio since 1997 and specializes in teaching applied clarinet lessons, reed-making, and coaching woodwind chamber ensembles, while also instructing future band directors in woodwind pedagogy.
- Education: DMA in Clarinet Performance from University of Texas Austin, MM in Clarinet Performance from Boston University, BA in Music from University of Oregon
Her research and performance interests span classical and jazz repertoires, with a focus on transcribing and adapting works by underrepresented composers like Rebecca Clarke, Lili and Nadia Boulanger, Fanny Hensel, Florence Price, and Stéphane Grappelli. She has performed internationally at ClarinetFest and the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy.
