Dr. Shannon Suldo is a Professor of School Psychology and Licensed Psychologist (PY #7704, Florida) at the University of South Florida's College of Education, where she serves as Director of Clinical Training and Co-Executive Director of the School Mental Health Collaborative (SMHC): Research, Training, and Technical Assistance Center. She is also Principal Investigator of a federally funded study evaluating the Well-Being Promotion Program and currently serves as Associate Editor of School Mental Health and President of the Society for the Study of School Psychology.
Dr. Suldo's research focuses on positive psychology applied to youth, with particular emphasis on children and adolescents' subjective well-being, the dual-factor model of mental health, and interventions to promote student well-being. She has extensively studied how adolescents' mental health is influenced by parent-child and student-teacher relationships, the social-emotional functioning of high school students in accelerated curricula (AP and IB programs), and evidence-based school mental health service delivery within a multi-tiered framework. Her work bridges theoretical research with practical applications, as evidenced by her three influential books on positive psychology in schools.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent focus on youth mental health through multiple lenses, with recent work examining adolescent voices in intervention design, adapting positive psychology approaches for ecological validity, and investigating the complex relationship between academic acceleration and student well-being. As a leading scholar in school mental health, her research increasingly incorporates student perspectives while maintaining rigorous methodological approaches.
Dr. Suldo actively contributes to the field through her editorial roles and leadership in professional organizations. She teaches courses including Psychoeducational Interventions III, Advanced Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, and Positive Psychology in the Schools, demonstrating her commitment to training the next generation of school psychologists.
Her leadership extends to the School Mental Health Collaborative, where she oversees research, training, and technical assistance initiatives that translate evidence-based practices into real-world school settings. As Principal Investigator of federally funded research, she continues to advance the field's understanding of effective well-being promotion strategies for diverse student populations.
