Professor Nicola Bowes is a Forensic Psychologist and Professor at Cardiff School of Sport & Health Sciences, Cardiff Metropolitan University. She specializes in violence prevention, forensic mental health, and adolescent behavior. As Programme Director for the UK's largest practitioner forensic psychology training programme, she emphasizes bridging academic and practical applications of psychology. Her roles include Lead Visitor for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), evaluating psychology training programs, and serving as Chair of the British Psychological Society's Division of Forensic Psychology (DFP).
Her research focuses on bullying, cyberbullying, and dating violence among adolescents, as well as interventions to reduce machismo and violence acceptance. Notable projects include the Lights4Violence initiative and prison-based animal therapy programs. She holds chartered psychologist status with the BPS and actively contributes to forensic psychology standards through HCPC and BPS governance.
