Shannon Marquez

Shannon Marquez, PhD, MEng, is the Dean of Global Engagement and a part-time Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. She is also affiliated with Drexel University as the Founding Director of the Dornsife Global Development Scholars Program. Her work spans global health, WASH, health systems, and gender equity across Africa and Southeast Asia.

Research Interests: Dr. Marquez’s research centers on WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), environmental burden of disease, gender equity and social inclusion (GESI), and health systems strengthening. She has led transformative projects on GESI integration in global health programming, maternal and child health, and rural water sustainability. Her work emphasizes capacity building and field-based training in low-resource settings.

Publication Trends: Her recent scholarly output focuses on HIV treatment adherence among pregnant women in Zambia, the intersection of sanitation access and health outcomes, Ebola survivor reintegration in Guinea, and environmental health impacts of air pollution and climate change.
