Dr. Davis's research in urban agriculture focuses on the spatial re-integration of productive land-uses back into urban settlements. She investigates how landscapes for both people and production can prosper within the peri-urban zone through spatial planning and design. Her work specifically considers the integration of food production, including animal-based systems, within urban greenspaces. She leads the 'Future Foodscapes for Health' research theme, which explores how food production can be reintegrated into urban form to improve food security and public health.
Her research on memorial landscapes examines how Euro-western tourists experience genocide memoryscapes, particularly in Cambodia and Rwanda. She has supervised post-graduate students studying memorial landscapes in Colombia and Japan, exploring questions of equity, inclusivity, and justice in public spaces.
Dr. Davis has received several awards for her work, including the NZILA Sustainability Award of Excellence and NZILA Distinction Award for Research in 2013, and was nominated for the Lincoln University Critic and Conscience of Society Award in 2022.
