معرفی
Shane Herbert is a Senior Lecturer and Principal Investigator in the Division of Developmental Biology and Medicine at the University of Manchester's Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. He holds a PhD from the University of Leeds (2006) and has held prestigious Wellcome Trust fellowships, including becoming a Senior Research Fellow in 2020. His research focuses on how cell shape dynamics instruct tissue morphogenesis, particularly in angiogenesis, using zebrafish models and interdisciplinary approaches.
Education: PhD in 2006 (University of Leeds), followed by postdoctoral work at UCSF under Didier Stainier.
Research Interests: Cell shape regulation of mitosis, mRNA trafficking in cell migration, and therapeutic implications of angiogenesis. Key projects include defining how interphase cell morphology dictates asymmetric divisions and uncovering RNA-driven mechanisms for mitochondrial distribution.
Grants/Awards: Wellcome Trust grants (2007, 2011, 2020), BHF PhD studentship collaborations, and leadership in cellular dynamics research networks.
Students: Supervises Mujtaba Ansari and Wednesday Tarhan-King. Team includes postdocs Georgia Hulmes and Brendan Capey.
Labs/Teams: Part of Manchester Regenerative Medicine Network and Christabel Pankhurst Institute, employing live-cell imaging, optogenetics, and computational modeling.
