Dr. Shana Harris is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Central Florida (UCF), affiliated with the College of Sciences. Her work focuses on drug use, addiction, and health politics in Latin America and the U.S. She holds a Ph.D. in medical anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco (2012), and completed an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowship in New York City before joining UCF in 2015.

Her research investigates psychedelic-based addiction treatments in Mexico, harm reduction programs in Florida, and global health policies. Current projects include ethnographic studies of ibogaine therapy centers in Baja California and collaborations with UCF’s Harm Reduction Research Initiative. Past work includes research on harm reduction in Argentina, HIV/AIDS in Colombia, and opiate treatment programs in the U.S.
Her work has been supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the Wenner-Gren Foundation, and published in journals like Medical Anthropology Quarterly and International Journal of Drug Policy.
