- M.Arch in Architecture and Urbanism, Design Research Laboratory (DRL), Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, UK
His research centers on the intersection of computational design, digital fabrication, and sustainable urban development. Key research themes include smart cities, intelligent building facades, net-zero systems, and community-driven urban regeneration. Projects like Karama 2040 and Softscapes explore sustainable and inclusive design solutions for dense urban environments in Dubai. His work emphasizes citizen participation in smart city frameworks and the integration of traditional architectural elements like permeable facades inspired by Middle Eastern souks.
The two most recent research outputs reflect a strong focus on sustainable and context-sensitive architectural design in arid regions. The 2020 paper on the ORA House presents a net-zero housing solution for the Middle East using passive design and ecosystemic principles, while the 2025 abstract explores the relationship between art, terrain, and architectural form, indicating an interdisciplinary and culturally grounded approach to design. Both works emphasize sustainability, digital innovation, and regional responsiveness.
Shameel Muhammed is actively involved in research dissemination through invited talks, exhibitions, and media contributions on topics such as smart cities and circular economy principles. He mentors undergraduate students through design studios and dissertation supervision and leads collaborative research projects involving multidisciplinary student teams. Though no formal grants are listed, his leadership in funded or institutional research initiatives is evident through ongoing projects and public engagement.
He contributes to academic governance as a Senate member and promotes innovative architectural pedagogy through workshops and studio leadership. His research integrates digital tools with sustainable and socially responsive design, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to sustainable cities and communities.
