Dr. Shalin Kothari is an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Hematology) at Yale University School of Medicine, where he serves as Clinician Lead of the Cancer Biology Training Program and Core Faculty in the Medical Oncology and Hematology Fellowship Program. He is actively involved with multiple research programs including the Cancer Signaling Networks Program, Center of Molecular and Cellular Oncology, and Leukemia & Lymphoma Program at Yale Cancer Center. His clinical practice focuses on treating patients with Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Dr. Kothari's research interests center on aggressive B-cell lymphomas, particularly mantle cell lymphoma. His work bridges basic science and clinical application, focusing on mechanistic understanding of lymphoma therapeutics and translation into early-phase clinical trials. Key research areas include apoptosis mechanisms, drug resistance pathways, metabolic vulnerabilities in lymphoma cells, and novel therapeutic approaches targeting B-cell receptor signaling and protein degradation pathways. His laboratory work is conducted in collaboration with the Müschen Laboratory at Yale.
Dr. Kothari has received numerous prestigious awards recognizing his contributions to lymphoma research and clinical care, including:
- Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) Scholar (2018)
- K12 Immuno-Oncology Training Program (IOTP) Scholar Award (2024)
- The DeLuca Center for Innovation in Hematology Career Development Award (2020)
- Gerald L. Logue Memorial Award for Outstanding Performance in Hematology/Oncology (2019)
- Arnold P. Gold Humanism Award in Medicine (2017)
As an active mentor, Dr. Kothari currently advises postdoctoral fellows Arjun Ravishankar and Etienne Leveille, and previously mentored Anna Kress. He serves as Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials investigating novel therapies for mantle cell lymphoma and other B-cell malignancies. His research publications span basic science investigations into lymphoma mechanisms and clinical outcomes research, with numerous publications in high-impact journals including Blood, Blood Advances, and Clinical Lymphoma Myeloma & Leukemia.
Dr. Kothari leads the lymphoma research efforts within the Müschen Laboratory at Yale, focusing on developing new therapies for mantle cell lymphoma through mechanistic understanding of disease pathways. His team includes postdoctoral researchers and clinical fellows working at the intersection of basic science discovery and clinical application.
