Seán Molloy

Dr. Seán Molloy is a Reader in International Relations at the University of Kent, having joined in 2013 from the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on critical-historical and interdisciplinary approaches to International Relations (IR), emphasizing the reinterpretation of foundational theorists such as Kant, Morgenthau, and Hume. He challenges mainstream IR narratives by reconstructing classical texts to reveal their deeper philosophical and theological dimensions.

His work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Susan Strange Prize and Sussex International Theory Prize for his book *Kant's International Relations: The Political Theology of Perpetual Peace*. He holds a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship (2019–2020) for research on E.H. Carr’s ethics, supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Molloy teaches postgraduate courses on IR theory and supervises PhDs exploring Realism, Kantianism, and political theology. His current projects include books on Hegel’s philosophy of politics, Hume’s passions in international life, and cross-cultural Realist traditions in ancient Greece, China, and India. He also examines literature’s political theoretical dimensions, with work on Thomas Pynchon and Shakespeare.
