Sevda ÖZKAYA SOFU is an Associate Professor of History at Kastamonu University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, where she has been employed since 2011. She previously served at Ardahan University (2009-2011) and Fırat University (1999-2009). Currently, she also holds administrative positions as Head of the Department of History at the Institute of Social Sciences and Deputy Director of the Institute at Kastamonu University.
She earned her BA, Master's, and PhD degrees in History from Fırat University, completing her doctoral studies in Modern History in 2007. Her educational background is firmly rooted in Ottoman historical studies, with additional certification in English language (ÜDS, 2010) and effective communication skills (2024).
Dr. ÖZKAYA SOFU's research primarily focuses on Ottoman history, particularly Ottoman-Egyptian relations, 19th century diplomatic history, and the Ottoman press. Her scholarly work demonstrates a strong emphasis on archival research, utilizing Ottoman archives, diplomatic reports, and historical newspapers to examine European-Ottoman interactions in the Middle East and North Africa. She has made significant contributions to understanding the complexities of Ottoman modernization processes, colonial competition in Ottoman territories, and the political economy of the Ottoman Empire during the 19th century.
Her publication record shows consistent scholarly output across multiple formats including journal articles, conference papers, books, and book chapters. A notable trend in her work is the examination of Ottoman history through the lens of specific case studies that reveal broader historical patterns, particularly regarding Ottoman interactions with European powers and the internal dynamics of Ottoman provincial administration.

Dr. ÖZKAYA SOFU has supervised numerous graduate students, serving as primary advisor for one doctoral dissertation and eight master's theses. Her research has been supported by at least one institutional project grant focused on price movements in Kastamonu between 1673-1806. She has also participated in twelve scientific missions, demonstrating active engagement with the international academic community.
