Seth Nagelberg is an Associate Professor in the Craft + Design department at the Cleveland Institute of Art. He holds a BFA from Hartford Art School, University of Hartford (CT) and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art (MI). His practice bridges craft and design through ceramics, emphasizing material properties and manufacturing innovation. He previously taught at Parsons The New School for Design before joining CIA.
Research focuses on closing the gap between craft traditions and contemporary design through exploration of clay’s materiality and manufacturing techniques. Publications include his 2015 book Batch Manufacturing for Ceramics and articles in Ceramics: Art and Perception and American Craft magazine. He has consulted for Rookwood Pottery and collaborated with Calvin Klein Collection on fabrication projects.
Teaching experience includes workshops at Greenwich House Pottery, Cranbrook Academy of Art, Ceramic Supply Inc, Hartford Art School, and Peters Valley School of Craft. His work emphasizes cohesive form language and historical-futuristic ceramic connections.
