A first-generation college graduate, he holds a PhD in English Language and Literature from the University of California, Davis (2008) and a BA in English from Clemson University (2000).

- PhD, English Language and Literature, University of California, Davis, 2008
- BA, English, Clemson University, 2000
Forrest's research centers on the intersection of noise, form, and embodiment in 20th-21st century literature. His scholarship investigates how sonic disruptions challenge conventional poetic structures through frameworks of ecocriticism, modernism, and media theory. Current projects include book manuscripts on noise poetics and Black Mountain poets, with emphasis on Larry Eigner's aural innovations and Charles Olson's performative stammer.
His recent publications reveal a distinct trajectory exploring auditory dimensions of poetry, with increasing focus on noise as both aesthetic principle and political resistance. Six publications since 2013 demonstrate sustained engagement with American modernist traditions while incorporating contemporary sound studies methodologies.
Forrest maintains active membership in key scholarly organizations including the Modern Language Association, Modernist Studies Association, and Association for the Study of the Arts of the Present. His teaching practice integrates poetics with writing studies and ecocritical approaches.
