Sergio Yona is Associate Professor of Classical Studies in the College of Arts and Science at University of Missouri. His research explores interdisciplinary approaches to Roman life with particular focus on Greek philosophy's influence on Latin literature.
Education includes:
- Ph.D. in Classics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- M.A. from Queen's University
- B.A. from Christendom College
Research specialization centers on:
- Epicurean philosophy in Horace's Satires
- Philodemus of Gadara's influence on Roman literature
- Religious themes in Augustan poetry
- Reception of Epicurean thought in later antiquity
Published monographs examine Epicurean ethics in Horatian satire and religion in Vergil and Horace. Current book project investigates superstition in early Roman poetry under contract with Oxford University Press. Teaching encompasses Latin poetry/prose, classical tradition, mythology, and comedy in Latin literature.
