Michael Lipka serves as Professor of Classical Philology in the Department of Philology at the University of Patras, specializing in Latin literature and Roman cultural history with emphasis on epic poetry, satire, and historiography.
His research expertise spans:
- Classical Philology methodologies
- Roman poetic traditions (particularly Virgilian and Ovidian studies)
- Latin Satire through Horatian and Senecan frameworks
- Material culture in ancient texts
- Silver Age historiography
- Lyrical forms in Republican/Roman literature
Professor Lipka teaches undergraduate courses including "Dido. The tragic heroine in the 4th book of Virgil's Aeneid", "Popular Wisdom and the Pumpkinification of the Emperor: Latin Satire of Horace and Seneca", and "Material Forms and Erotic Metamorphoses: Lucretius and Ovid", alongside graduate-level instruction in "Latin Philology I: Virgil" for the 2024-2026 semester.
