Kyle Gervais

Kyle Gervais is a Professor of Classical Studies at the University of Western Ontario. He holds a PhD from Otago University, an MA in Classics, and a BSc in Biology from Queen’s University. His research focuses on classical Latin epic and lyric poetry, medieval and Renaissance Latin poetry, classical reception in popular culture, digital humanities, and palaeography.

His recent publications address topics such as intertextual allusions in Statius, emendations to Virgil’s Aeneid, and medieval pseudo-Ovidian works. He co-authored Lucan and Flavian Epic (2024) and co-edited Reading Statius: A Critical Guide (2021). His work often explores violence, allusion, and narrative techniques in classical and post-classical texts, with a unique approach bridging traditional philology and digital methods.

Key trends in his scholarship include comparative analysis of Latin hexameter poetry, the reception of Virgilian and Ovidian motifs, and the intersection of classical themes with modern media like cinema and politics. He has also contributed to digital humanities projects such as the Tesserae database.
