معرفی
Cecilia Criado Boado is a Professor of Latin Philology at the University of Santiago de Compostela, affiliated with the Faculty of Philology and the Department of Classical, French and Italian Philology. Her research focuses on post-Augustan poetry, particularly Flavian epic, with emphasis on Statius’ Thebaid and its theological, political, and mythological dimensions. She holds a Doctorate from the University of Santiago de Compostela (1997), completing a thesis on Statius’ anti-Virgilian approach in his Tebaida.
Her work bridges classical literary analysis with contemporary digital humanities, as seen in her contributions to Scire vias: Humanidades digitales y conocimiento (2024) and Humanidades digitales y Filología Clásica (2021). She has directed educational initiatives like Latine Doceamus, Latine Discamus II (2016), promoting active Latin learning. Her research group, CLASMED (Classical and Medieval Studies), explores interdisciplinary approaches to classical texts and their medieval reception.
Key themes in her publications include Statius’ portrayal of Jupiter’s theological contradictions (2013), the mythological roots of civil strife in Thebes (2024), and Flavian epic’s intergeneric self-awareness (2019). Her work often situates Roman literature within broader philosophical and historical frameworks, such as Stoic influences on Seneca and Statius. She has presented at international conferences in Athens, London, and Turin, and co-edited volumes on ancient epic and classical reception.
