Sergio Waisman is a Professor of Spanish and International Affairs at George Washington University, affiliated with Judaic Studies. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley (2000) and an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Colorado, Boulder (1995). His research focuses on Latin American literature, translation studies, comparative literature, and Jewish-Latin American identity. He has translated numerous works, including The Absent City by Ricardo Piglia, for which he received an NEA Translation Fellowship Award. His publications include Borges and Translation, Leaving, and El encargo.
Teaching interests include modernismo poetry, Argentine literature, and interdisciplinary approaches to translation. Recent works explore narrative structures, cultural hybridity, and memory in migration contexts. Awards include recognition for his contributions to literary translation and scholarship.
