Darrell B. Lockhart is a Professor of Spanish and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at the University of Nevada, Reno. He holds a Ph.D. in Spanish and Jewish Studies from Arizona State University (1995). His primary affiliation is the Department of World Languages and Literatures within the College of Liberal Arts. Previously, he served as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts (2014–present) and Chair of his department. Lockhart is an expert in Jewish Latin American literature and cultural production, with additional research on detective fiction and science fiction in Latin America. He is a co-president of the Latin American Jewish Studies Association (LAJSA).

Research focuses on Jewish Latin American literature, cultural studies, and gender studies. His notable work includes translations of Argentine authors like Manuela Fingueret’s Daughter of Silence, recognized by World Literature Today. His scholarship spans Latin American cinema, popular culture, and comparative literature. Recent publications address themes of identity, memory, and representation in Jewish-Latin American contexts.
Teaching spans from introductory Portuguese courses to advanced topics like literary translation and Latin American drama. He has advised numerous students in Hispanic literature and cultural studies.
Awards: His translation of Daughter of Silence was honored as one of the best translations of 2012 by World Literature Today. He actively contributes to academic organizations such as LAJSA and has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary groups studying Latin American Jewish cultural production and chairs academic committees at the university level.
