Sergio Lussana is a Senior Lecturer in American History at Nottingham Trent University's School of Social Sciences, Department of Humanities. Previously affiliated with the University of Warwick and Royal Holloway University of London, he specializes in race, gender, and emotion in 19th-century America, particularly African American slavery studies.
His research examines how enslaved men formed homosocial networks through activities like drinking, wrestling, and folklore, creating independent notions of masculinity and resistance. This work is documented in his monograph My Brother Slaves (2016) and multiple peer-reviewed articles.
