Brenda Stevenson is the Nickoll Family Endowed Professor of History and African American Studies at UCLA. An award-winning scholar, her research examines race, slavery, gender, and racial conflict in American history through monographs including 'Life in Black and White' and 'The Contested Murder of Latasha Harlins'.
Research Focus:
- Comparative family and community structures in slave societies
- Gender conventions in antebellum Virginia
- Urban race relations and civil unrest
Honors include Guggenheim and National Humanities Center fellowships, and the OAH Rawley Prize for best book on race relations.
