Sergei Khlebnikov is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Purdue University's College of Science, where he has held roles including Assistant (1993-1998), Associate (1998-2002), and full Professor (2002-present). His research focuses on elementary particle theory, cosmology, quantum field theory, and holographic dualities in strongly coupled plasmas. He earned an M.S. from Moscow State University (1985) and a Ph.D. from the Institute for Nuclear Research, Moscow (1988).
- Education: M.S. Physics, Moscow State University (1985)
- Ph.D. Physics, Institute for Nuclear Research (1988)
His research interests include quantum phase slips, superconductivity, gravitational waves, and cosmological inflation. Recent work explores gauge/gravity duality applications to shock waves in plasmas and entanglement entropy in superfluids.
- Awards: NSF CAREER Award (1995-1998), Sloan Fellowship (1994-1998), Purdue University Faculty Scholar (2001-2006)
His advising and grants include leadership in theoretical physics projects, with funding from NSF and DOE. He contributes to research groups studying quantum criticality, topological materials, and cosmological dynamics. His lab focuses on theoretical models bridging high-energy physics and condensed matter systems.
