Seneshaw Tsegaye

Seneshaw Tsegaye is the Chair of the Department of Bioengineering, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering and an Associate Professor at the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering, Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He joined FGCU in 2017 as an Assistant Professor and previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida (USF), where he directed the Climate Change and Sustainability Concentration.

• M.Sc. in Integrated Urban Engineering (2008) - UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, Netherlands
• B.Sc. in Civil Engineering (2004) - Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia

Research Focus: Dr. Tsegaye specializes in resilient smart cities strategies, particularly in integrated urban water management, productive water use, climate-land-energy-water nexus analysis, and transitioning to green infrastructure systems. His work emphasizes GIS-based tools for sustainable development and Low Impact Development (LID) strategies.

Recent Projects:

• Developed a Decision Support Tool for Vegetation-based Stormwater Management funded by the US Forest Service.
• Led an interdisciplinary team of 15 members to create frameworks for Integrated Urban Water Management funded by the Global Water Partnership.

Collaborations: Works with international organizations including Global Water Partnership, African Water Facility, UN-Habitat, and the World Bank. Active member of American Society of Civil Engineers and Water Environment Federation.
