معرفی
Selim Cellek is a Professor of Health and Biomedicine at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), leading the Drug Discovery Group within the Medical Technology Research Centre (MTRC). He holds a Medical Degree from Hacettepe University and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of London, followed by postdoctoral research at University College London (UCL). His career includes roles at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), UCL, and Cranfield University prior to joining ARU in 2015.
Research Interests:
- Phenotypic assays for drug discovery
- Fibroproliferative diseases (e.g., Peyronie’s disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia)
- Urogenital tract physiology and nitrergic neurotransmission
- Diabetic autonomic neuropathy
Recent Articles: Recent studies emphasize anti-fibrotic drug development, leveraging phenotypic screening and high-throughput assays. Key themes include myofibroblast inhibition, synergistic drug combinations (e.g., PDE5 inhibitors and tamoxifen), and repurposing FDA-approved drugs.
Awards & Grants:
- Fellowship: British Pharmacological Society
- Membership: European Society for Sexual Medicine
- Consultancy to pharmaceutical companies in urogenital and diabetes therapeutic areas
Advising & Labs: Leads the Drug Discovery Group at MTRC, focusing on translational medicine. Collaborates with industry on anti-fibrotic drug pipelines and digital health solutions for dementia care (e.g., SMART4MD app).
Future Work: Expanding research into fibrosis pathophysiology, optimizing phenotypic screening platforms, and advancing treatments for chronic fibrotic conditions like Peyronie’s disease and diabetic neuropathy.
