Seema Patel is a Lecturer and Programme Leader for the Foundation Year in Social Science at Northumbria University since 2007. She teaches on courses including BSc Sociology, Criminology, and International Relations. Her research focuses on family responses to the imprisonment of Asian women, examining how gender roles and family ideologies influence agency policies and awareness of coercion. Prior to academia, Patel worked in community development, Home Office initiatives on community cohesion, and regional regeneration. She holds an MA in Urban and Regional Planning (2006) and an Advanced Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning (2011). Her work bridges sociological theory with policy practice, particularly addressing marginalized groups.
Research interests include the intersection of gender, criminal justice, and family structures. Collaborative projects, such as the Newcastle Citizens Assembly Evaluation, highlight her expertise in participatory governance and policy impact analysis.
