Sebastian Thompson Parga is an Assistant Research Professor (tenure track) and Principal Investigator at IMDEA Nanoscience under the Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies. His research focuses on intracellular temperature measurements, integrating nanotechnology, cancer biology, and photodynamic therapy. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from City University of New York (CUNY) and has held postdoctoral positions at institutions such as Northwestern University and the Institute of Photonics Science.
- Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Chemistry, CUNY (2004-2009)
- Undergraduate in Chemistry Sciences, University of Buenos Aires (1998-2004)
Dr. Thompson’s research bridges intracellular thermometry with cancerogenesis, utilizing nanoscale temperature monitoring for diagnostics and treatment. His work has led to innovations such as anisotropy-based nanothermometers and DNA-driven temperature sensing systems. Publications in journals like ACS Nano and Nature Communications highlight his contributions to nanotechnology and biomedical applications.
He has received prestigious awards including the Marie Curie Fellowship, Retos Jovenes Investigadores 'A' grant (193,000 Euros), and CNIO Friend Fellowship. His laboratory explores nanothermometer design, plasmonic heating, and enzyme control via photothermal nanoheaters.
- Current Lab Members: Undergraduate, PhD students, and Postdocs from Biology, Chemistry, and Photonics backgrounds
- Collaborations: Researchers at University of Cambridge, Rice University, and University of Aveiro
