María Encarnación Lorenzo Abad is a Full Professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Spain, with a double affiliation at IMDEA Nanociencia. She joined IMDEA in June 2011 and holds a PhD from UAM (1985). Her career includes postdoctoral research at Dublin City University and visiting roles at Cornell University (1990, NATO Program) and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (1998).
Her research focuses on nanomaterials for biosensors, electrochemical indicators, energy storage materials, and operando spectroscopic methods. Key contributions include developing nanodiamond-, graphene-, and carbon nanotube-based biosensors, metallacarborane-based DNA biosensors, and graphene@SiC nanomaterials for supercapacitors. She has authored/co-authored over 100 publications and book chapters in analytical chemistry.
Dr. Lorenzo Abad has been honored with the Madri+d Foundation Award. Her group, Electrochemical Nanobiosensors, explores cutting-edge applications of nanotechnology in analytical and energy fields. She collaborates with strategic industrial partners and contributes to advanced laboratory services at IMDEA.
