Prof. Dr. iur. Sebastian Heselhaus is a Professor of European Law, International Law, Public Law, and Comparative Law at the University of Lucerne's School of Law. He serves as Executive Director of the Center for Law and Sustainability (founded in 2013) and Task Coordinator of SCCER CREST (Swiss Competence Center for Research in Energy, Society, and Transition). His academic career includes a doctorate on fiscal authority in environmental policy and a post-doctoral thesis on participatory rights in multi-level governance. He holds visiting professor roles, including at Nottingham Trent University, and has lectured internationally at institutions like the University of Madison (USA) and Vilnius University (Lithuania).
- Education: Studied law at Justus Liebig University Giessen (1981–1987), with political science and philosophy. Funded by the German National Academic Foundation, he conducted research at the UN in New York and the London School of Economics.
- Research: Focuses on environmental law, multi-level governance, and energy transition policy. Regularly publishes comparative law analyses in URP on European and Swiss environmental law developments.
- Leadership: Founded the Center for Law and Sustainability and oversees initiatives like the European Law Moot Court and ELSA European Human Rights Moot Court.
