Sean Parr is a Professor of Fine Arts Education at Saint Anselm College. His work bridges music history and performance, specializing in 19th-century French and Italian opera. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, an M.M. from Florida State University, and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.
Research focuses include female vocality, coloratura techniques, historical performance practices, and intersections of gender, madness, dance, and technology. Recent projects include a book on female vocal virtuosity and articles published in Cambridge Opera Journal and 19th-Century Music. He performs as a lyric tenor, starring in roles such as Faust and Werther, and co-founded Morningside Opera, praised by the New York Times for its innovative approach.
Teaching emphasizes active learning through listening exercises, group work, and live performances. He frequently organizes field trips to Boston-area concerts. Previously taught at Dickinson College, Columbia University, and Florida State University.
