معرفی
Sean McKee is a Research Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Strathclyde, Faculty of Science. His work bridges applied mathematics and biomedical engineering, focusing on the development of computational models for medical devices such as heart valves and stents. He collaborates extensively with engineers, clinicians, and industry partners to advance the design and performance of cardiovascular implants.
His research interests lie at the intersection of mathematical modeling, fluid dynamics, and biomedical applications. Key areas include fluid-structure interaction, drug-eluting stent optimization, and synthetic heart valve development. Using advanced numerical methods, he contributes to improving the safety and efficacy of medical devices through predictive simulations.
The recent publications reflect a strong trend toward translational research, combining mathematical rigor with experimental validation. His work increasingly focuses on polymeric materials for heart valves and the precise control of drug release kinetics in vascular stents, aiming to address global cardiovascular health challenges.
- Alan Taylor Lecturer (ECMI 2010, Wuppertal)
- ICMC Medal of Honor (University of Sao Paulo, 2008)
McKee has been involved in significant research grants, including EPSRC-funded projects and Royal Society of Edinburgh awards, often as principal or co-investigator. He has advised and collaborated with postgraduate students and early-career researchers, contributing to interdisciplinary training in medical device innovation. His leadership extends to editorial roles, including service on the board of the Journal of Mathematics in Industry and Fasciculi Mathematici.
He is actively engaged in knowledge transfer through the Knowledge Transfer Network for Industrial Mathematics and contributes to the Medical Devices Doctoral Training Centre at Strathclyde, fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
