Dr Sean Holmes is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Film and Television Studies at Brunel University within the College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences. He currently serves as Vice Dean International for the college and teaches modules on The Western, Post-War European Cinema, and Crime Cinema. His research bridges American and British film/television industries, focusing on labor history, cultural production, and oral history preservation.
Education:
- PhD in American History from New York University
- MA in American History from Bowling Green State University
- BA in Modern History from Durham University
Dr Holmes specializes in the historical analysis of technicians' labor in British media industries and workers' experiences in the American entertainment sector. He has co-edited interdisciplinary collections and is actively involved in documenting the transition of laboratory workers' skills amid digital obsolescence through the BECTU History Project.
His publications from 2000-2013 cover labor dynamics in both American and British entertainment industries, including studies on actors' unions, cultural hierarchies, and technological disruptions. He emphasizes oral history methodologies and welcomes students researching media labor history, digital transitions, or collaborative creativity systems.
