Richard Wallace is an Associate Professor in Film & Television Studies at the University of Warwick, where he also holds roles as Director of Film and Television Studies and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He earned all his degrees (BA Hons, MA for Research, PhD) at Warwick in Film and Television Studies.
His research focuses on British television history, documentary media, screen comedy, and the mediation of 'real-world' narratives. Notable projects include The Projection Project (exploring UK cinema projectionists' roles) and co-editing Practices of Projection: Histories and Technologies. He is a core member of the Midlands Television Research Group and contributed to the Voices of the University oral history project.
Teaching includes undergraduate modules like Television History and Criticism and postgraduate courses on documentary studies. His work bridges historical research methods with contemporary media analysis, emphasizing oral histories and archival practices.
Publications span monographs, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles in journals like Quarterly Review of Film and Video and Journal of British Cinema and Television. His recent work critiques post-truth media narratives and explores digital transitions in cinema.
