معرفی
Dr. Sean Edington is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of New Hampshire's College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He leads a research group at Rudman Hall focused on using time-resolved laser spectroscopy and mass spectrometry to study ion binding mechanisms in proteins and their links to diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, Princeton University
- Postdoctoral Research, University of Texas at Austin
- Postdoctoral Research in Physical Chemistry, Yale University
- B.S. in Chemistry, University of Virginia
Research Focus: His lab investigates how ions bind to biological molecules and signaling proteins, with emphasis on mutations that disrupt normal function and cause disease. Key methodologies include cryogenic ion vibrational spectroscopy and ultrafast laser techniques to map energy exchange in molecular systems.
Publication Trends: Recent work demonstrates advances in characterizing metal binding motifs, proton transfer dynamics in hydrated systems, and developing spectroscopic benchmarks for biological probes. Studies frequently combine high-resolution mass spectrometry with cryogenic techniques to isolate molecular interactions.
Teaching: Courses include Physical Chemistry II, Molecular & Cellular Biology research methods, and student research mentorship at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
