Dr. Scott Watson is a full-time faculty member in the School of Music at Cairn University, where he has taught since 2009. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Composition from Temple University, a Master of Music (MMus) from Temple University, and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from West Chester University. His expertise spans Music Education, Instrumental Music Composition, and Music Technology. Watson is a nationally recognized composer and music education technology specialist, with over 100 published works for band and orchestra through publishers like Alfred Music. His book, Using Technology to Unlock Musical Creativity (Oxford University Press, 2011), highlights his contributions to music pedagogy.
Watson’s career includes 35 years as a band director and music teacher in the Parkland School District, followed by a year teaching music theory at Temple University. He also serves as an adjunct instructor at several Philadelphia-area universities and is a sought-after clinician for music conferences and school departments nationwide. His compositions have been performed at prestigious venues such as the White House and the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic.
His research interests emphasize leveraging technology to enhance musical creativity and education. Watson’s work has earned awards, with performances at venues like Philadelphia’s Academy of Music. Beyond academia, he actively contributes to music ministry at Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church and enjoys family time in Cape May.
