R. Scott Smith is a Professor of Classics, Humanities, and Italian Studies at the University of New Hampshire, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts (COLA). He holds a PhD in Classical Philology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (2000). His research focuses on ancient mythography, particularly Greek and Roman interpretations of myths, and the works of Seneca the Younger. He co-edited The Oxford Handbook of Greek and Roman Mythography and leads the digital humanities project Putting Greek Myth on the Map, visualizing mythological geographies. Smith teaches Latin, Greek, and classical courses, directing UNH's Study Abroad in Rome Program. He also serves as President of regional classical organizations and chairs the Faculty Senate.
