Dr Scott Lavery is a Lecturer in Political Economy at the University of Glasgow's Department of Political & International Studies. He joined in 2023 following a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (2018–2021) and academic roles at the University of Sheffield (2018–2023). His research focuses on post-2008 economic transformation, EU industrial strategy, Brexit implications, and British capitalism's structural challenges. He holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield (2012–2016), an MA in International Political Economy from the University of York (2011–2012), and a BA in Philosophy & Politics from the University of Glasgow (2005–2009).
Key research interests include: political economy of globalization, EU trade policy, uneven development, state theory, welfare restructuring, and business power. His first monograph, *British Capitalism after the Crisis* (2019), examines post-financial crisis policymaking. Current projects explore the EU's new industrial policies and semiconductors. He publishes in journals like *Review of International Political Economy* and *Journal of Common Market Studies*, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches blending politics, geography, and history.
Recent articles analyze the EU's strategic autonomy in geoeconomics, Brexit's impact on financial centers, and post-crisis capitalist legitimation. His work bridges classical political economy traditions with contemporary global capitalism challenges. Teaching includes courses on globalization, international banking, and British politics.
Lavery has secured grants such as the Leverhulme Fellowship (2018–2021) and collaborates with institutions like the Sheffield Political Economy Research Institute. He welcomes PhD students researching topics aligned with his areas of expertise.
