Scott K. Hyde is a Professor of Mathematics at Brigham Young University - Hawaii, where he has served since 2004, progressing from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and ultimately to Professor. He holds leadership positions including past Chair of the Mathematics Department (2012-2018) and current Program Lead for Mathematics. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Statistics from Montana State University (2004), an M.S. in Statistics from the same institution (1999), and undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from BYU-Hawaii (1996).
- Ph.D., Statistics, Montana State University, 2004
- M.S., Statistics, Montana State University, 1999
- B.S., Mathematics, Brigham Young University - Hawaii, 1996
- A.S., Computer Science, Brigham Young University - Hawaii, 1996
Professor Hyde's research spans mathematical statistics with particular focus on robust statistical methods, linear models, multivariate analysis, and numerical methods. His work bridges theoretical statistics with practical applications, notably in environmental monitoring and educational technology. He has developed expertise in implementing statistical methods using computational tools, particularly the R programming environment, which informs both his research and teaching approaches.
His publication record reveals a dual focus: methodological statistical research and innovative approaches to mathematics education. The earlier part of his career shows strong work in robust statistical methods and multivariate analysis, while more recent publications demonstrate increasing engagement with environmental applications and educational technology, particularly the integration of R programming into mathematics instruction.

Professor Hyde has extensive experience mentoring students and colleagues, serving as department chair, and leading curriculum development initiatives. He has chaired multiple faculty search committees and program review committees, including the Mathematics Department's program review in 2013 which led to the creation of specialized tracks within the mathematics major. His service extends to statistical consulting for students and faculty across campus, demonstrating his commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.
As Mathematics Department Technology Chair since 2004, he has led initiatives to integrate technology into mathematics education, including implementing the MyStatLab system, automating classroom note capture systems, and developing the department's web presence. His technical expertise spans multiple programming languages and operating systems, supporting both his research and educational innovations.
